Axle Munshine is haunted by a recurring dream.

He is in battledress, and seemingly exhausted by a merciless, long march. Suddenly he wanders into a quiet park or garden, where sits, surrounded by birds and flowers and reading a book, a ravishing blond young woman – his dream woman, literally.

But when he falls on his knees, overcome by this vision of loveliness, and reaches out for her, his hands just grasp thin air, as he cannot touch her. They stand in different time and space dimensions and cannot ever meet.

And yet, the book she's reading is about him, and he's dreaming of her...

For her sake he will break the laws of his world, he'll give up all his ambitions within the Guild's hierarchy, he shall have to renounce all his privileges, he will risk his life and he'll draw blood and set the Universe ablaze before he even learns who she actually is.

All he knows about her is a name – just a name, whispered in a dream.

She is called Chimera...
